Steppingstone School for Gifted Education in Farmington Hills has named
Kirsten Haglund, Miss America 2008, the honorary chairperson for the
school's 16th Annual Benefit Auction, “Around The World In 80 Days,” which
will be held on March 28.
Kiyo Morse, Head of School, said Steppingstone is excited to welcome the
Farmington Hills native to the school's largest fund-raiser.
She said she looks forward to learning more about this “accomplished young
lady.”
Haglund currently attends the University of Cincinnati,
College-Conservatory of Music, majoring in musical theatre.
Haglund has always valued education and said that her reason for entering
the Miss Michigan pageant was to pursue the scholarship opportunities the
organization provides. Hagland chose to help raise awareness of eating
disorders as her platform while competing in the Miss America Organization
because she struggled with anorexia for several years as an adolescent.
She has continued her advocacy to those battling eating disorders with the
creation of the Kirsten Haglund Foundation for Eating Disorders.
Steppingstone is honored to have this terrific role model lend her voice
to the cause of gifted children and their education.
Steppingstone School's 16th Annual Benefit Auction is at 6 p.m. on March
28 at St. Mary's Cultural Center at 18100 Merriman Road in Livonia.
Tickets are $70.
